Running a glass and aluminium shop in Malad West means you’re always dealing with sharp edges and heavy frames. We’re located at Shreepal Industrial Estate on Pavan Baug Road. It’s a busy street and there’s always a bit of a struggle to find parking for the delivery vans. Inside our unit, number 58, the air smells like cut metal and cleaning spray. We spend the day measuring out lengths of aluminium and cutting glass to fit. You have to be really careful with your hands in this line of work. One slip and you’re headed for the first aid kit. We have these big tables where we lay everything out to assemble the frames. It’s loud when the saws are running, so we don't talk much during those times. Aum Aluminium & Glass is a place where we just focus on getting the measurements right. If a window frame is off by even a tiny bit, it won’t fit, and we have to start over from scratch. That’s the kind of thing that frustrates us, but it’s part of the trade. We don't have any corporate slogans. We just show up, take the orders, and do the cutting and joining. People from around Malad know they can drop in and see what we’re working on. It’s a small space, but we make it work. The fan is always blowing to keep the heat down, but it mostly just moves the metal dust around.
