We've been here at shop 19 in the Kamdhenu Shopping Centre for a while now. Lokhandwala is always busy, especially in the evenings when everyone comes out to the complex for their shopping. Our office isn't very big but it gets the job done for what we need. Most days we are just sitting here with the ceiling fan spinning, looking over rental papers or talking to neighbors who stop by for a quick chat. Andheri can be a bit loud with all the traffic and horns outside, but you get used to it after a few years of working here. Sometimes the elevator in the building acts up and makes a strange noise, so we just take the stairs instead. It is easier that way and probably better for us too. We usually have some tea around four o’clock from the guy who brings it in small glass cups. We watch the crowds walk past our window while we wait for the day to end. Finding a decent place to live in this part of Mumbai takes a lot of walking around and checking different blocks. We know most of the security guards around the complex. They usually know who is moving in or out before anyone else does. It’s a lot of phone calls and waiting for people to show up for viewings. Some days are slow and we just read the paper, others we don’t even have time to eat lunch until late. We just keep things moving along for the neighborhood.
