My work is based out of the Dharavi Industrial Suburb, which is always humming with activity. You can find me near Holi Maidan, a place that everyone around here knows. My name is Ashish D Kamble, and I’ve been operating from this area for quite a while now. It’s a bit of a crowded spot, with narrow lanes and lots of small businesses tucked into every corner. The air is always filled with the sounds of machinery or people calling out to each other. My unit isn’t very large, but it’s enough for what I do. I spend most of my day inside, dealing with whatever work has come in that morning. There isn't much of a lobby or a waiting area; it’s mostly just functional space for working. During the festivals, especially around Holi Maidan, the whole place changes and gets very lively. But most days, it’s just the usual grind. I’ve gotten used to the heat and the constant movement of the suburb. I don't really use a fancy computer system or anything, just some ledgers and a basic setup. It's honest work and it keeps me busy from sunup to sundown. I usually eat my lunch at my desk while looking over my notes. The neighbors are good people, and we all try to help each other out when someone needs a hand or a tool. It's a tough area but there's a real sense of community here. Every morning I start by sweeping out the dust.
