It is pretty loud around here in Kurla West because of the ship breaking yard nearby. You can always hear the sound of metal hitting metal and heavy machinery moving around. Our place, Anupam Screen Art, is tucked away in this industrial part of town. It is not the cleanest area, with all the dust and the smell of old ships, but it works for what we do. Inside, we have screens laid out and buckets of ink sitting in the corners. The floor usually has some stains on it from a spill last week or the week before. We spend a lot of time just prepping frames and making sure the mesh is tight enough. It is repetitive work, pulling the squeegee across the fabric and then hanging things up to dry. Some days the humidity makes the ink take forever to set, which is frustrating when we have a lot to get through. Being near the yard means there are always big trucks passing by, rattling the windows a little. We do not have any fancy signs or a glass front. It is just a workshop where we get the job done. Sometimes we have to step outside just to get a bit of air, even if it is just the salty, metallic air of Kurla West. People usually come by because they heard about us from someone else in the trade. It is a simple setup we have got going on here at the yard.
