R B Rangwala is based at 193 Masjid Bunder West, right on Narayan Dhuru Street. If you’ve ever been to this part of Mumbai, you know how packed it gets. Narayan Dhuru Street is famous for being crowded, and our spot is right in the thick of it. The building is old, and the stairs are narrow, but that is the charm of Masjid Bunder. We have been here for years, handling our daily business among the lorries and handcarts. It is noisy and dusty, and the tea stall nearby is where we get our breaks. We don't have a big polished office with air conditioning. It is more of a traditional setup where we sit and talk to anyone who comes in. Every day is a bit of a struggle with the logistics of the street, but we wouldn't want to be anywhere else. The energy here is different from the rest of the city. You see people from all over coming to buy things. We know our neighbors well, and we all help each other move stuff when the street gets blocked. It’s a practical way of living. We just keep our heads down and do our work at 193 Narayan Dhuru Street. It’s not a fancy life, but it is a busy one. We’ve seen the street change over the decades, yet it somehow stays exactly the same. We just keep going, day in and day out, with the same old shutters.
