Our little shop, Ankit Sarees, is located right opposite the Kabutar Khanna on Charni Road. If you’ve ever been there, you know there are hundreds of pigeons everywhere, and it can get quite a bit messy outside. We’ve been here for years, and the shop is old-fashioned. We don't have any of those modern glass displays. Everything is kept in boxes or stacked on shelves behind the counter. We mostly sell sarees for everyday use, though we do keep some nicer ones for special occasions. Charni Road is always humming with people going to the station or the market. We spend a lot of our morning just dusting the front because of all the pigeons and the traffic. It’s a simple life. We know most of the other shopkeepers around here, and we often share tea in the afternoons. Sometimes a customer will come in and spend two hours looking at everything we have and then leave without buying a single thing, but that’s just part of the trade. We don't mind it much. The shop is small and the floor is a bit uneven, but it’s ours. We don't use any fancy sales talk. If a saree looks good, it looks good. We just show you what we have and let you decide for yourself. It’s a quiet way to spend the day, and we wouldn’t have it any other way really.
