Alfred Cinema

Alfred Cinema has been standing here at Grant Road for a very long time. If you look at the old survey records, it is listed as Survey No 1231/2, but for most people around here, it is just that old theater they walk past every day on their way to work. The building shows its age quite a bit, and we do not really try to hide it with fancy lights or modern signs. The ticket window is still that small opening in the wall with an iron grate over it. Inside, the seats are the old-fashioned kind, not like those big reclining chairs you see in the expensive malls now. The air conditioning works, but it has a bit of a hum to it that joins in with the sound of the movie. We get a lot of workers and local residents who just want to sit down for a few hours and watch a show without spending a lot of money. The floors can get a bit messy with popcorn and wrappers, especially after a housefull show, but we sweep it all up before the next screening starts. It is a busy area, and Grant Road is always full of noise and traffic, so once you step inside, it feels like a different world for a little while. We do not have a website for booking, so people just show up and buy what is available at the counter. The projectionist has been with us forever and knows how to handle the equipment.
