Academy Of Sangeet

The Academy Of Sangeet is tucked away in the J Wing of the Megacentre in Goregaon West. If you come by in the evening, you’ll hear a mix of different sounds coming through the door. It’s not always perfectly in tune, especially when the younger kids are just starting out, but that’s part of the process. We spend a lot of time sitting on the floor or on small stools, going over scales and rhythm. The walls are thin, so you can usually hear what’s happening in the next room. It’s a simple space, nothing too elaborate, just enough room for the instruments and the students. We’ve been at 41287 Goregaon West for a while now, and the neighbors are mostly used to the music by this point. Sometimes we have to remind the students to pack up their bags properly so people don’t trip in the hallway. It’s a bit cramped when several classes are happening at once, but we make it work. Most of us here just really like music and wanted a place to share that without making it too complicated or formal. You won't find any shiny brochures here, just some sheet music and a few instruments that have seen better days. It feels more like a home than a school most of the time. We just take it day by day, teaching whoever shows up and making sure the instruments stay in decent shape for the next person. Every day is a bit different depending on who is practicing.
