We are located in Mulund West on J P Road. It is a small place, but it is always filled with some kind of sound throughout the day. On any given afternoon, you might hear a harmonium playing or someone trying to get the right rhythm on a tabla. We started Aastha Music Class because we wanted a spot where people in Mulund could come and learn traditional music without it being too formal or scary. We have some instruments lined up against the walls. Some are quite old, but they still sound great. We teach kids who are just starting out and adults who maybe played years ago and want to pick it up again. It is not a polished studio with soundproofing; you can definitely hear the rickshaws passing by on J P Road while we practice. But that is okay, it is just part of the local life here. Sometimes we have small gatherings where the students play for each other. It is usually a bit disorganized, with everyone trying to find a place to sit, but we have a good time. There is a certain smell of old wood and incense in the room that has been there for years. We do not have a big staff, just a couple of us who love music and want to share what we know with others. It is a simple life, moving from one lesson to the next and listening to the notes.
