Our office is in Room No 6 of Reshmwala Chawl. It’s a small place in Ghatkopar West. Being near New Life Hospital means there’s always something happening outside on the street. The room is mostly filled with files and old maps of the area. We’ve got a couple of wooden desks and some plastic chairs for visitors who stop by. It’s not a large operation at all. We spend a lot of time on the phone or walking around the neighborhood looking at different properties. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but we haven’t gotten around to that yet. Usually, someone is sitting here drinking tea and waiting for a client to show up. Ghatkopar is a busy place, and we see all sorts of people looking for a roof over their heads. Some want a small room, others are looking for something much bigger for their families. We just keep the records and tell them what’s available right now. The door stays open to let some air in because it gets stuffy with all the paper inside. It’s a simple setup. We don't use fancy computers for everything; a lot is still written down in big registers with a pen. People find us because they know the hospital or they’ve lived in the chawl for years. We’ve been helping people find homes in this part of town for a long time. It is honest work and it keeps us busy.
