Dharavi is a place that never stops, and we are right in the middle of it on 90 Feet Road. You’ll find A. R. KHAN GLASS WORK just opposite the Himalaya Hotel. It’s a small shop, but we pack a lot in. The sound of the traffic outside is just background noise to us now. We spend our time measuring frames and cutting glass to fit. It’s a lot of precision work in a space that feels a bit tight when more than two people are in here. We’ve got glass leaning against every wall. You have to watch your step. We do all sorts of glass work, mostly for local folks or small contractors who need a quick fix. It’s not a polished operation with a secretary. It’s just me and a couple of guys getting our hands dirty. The humidity in Mumbai makes the glass sweat sometimes, so we’re always wiping things down before we hand them over. We don't use big fancy words to describe what we do. We just cut the glass, smooth the edges, and hope the customer is happy with the fit. It’s been our life for years on Saibaba Nagar. If you’re looking for us, just look for the shop with the glass racks near the hotel. We don't have a big sign, but we are always here from morning till late evening. It’s hard work, but it’s ours.
