A G Hakimjee & Sons has been around for quite a while. We are based on the second floor of the Raja Bahadur Building. The address is 95 Maulana Azad Road, which some people also know as the Urmi Vaccine Road area or near Old Padra Road. It can be a bit confusing for people visiting for the first time. The building is an old one, with high ceilings and those thick walls that keep it a bit cooler than the modern glass ones. We have a lot of old wooden furniture that’s been here since we started. There’s always a stack of papers on the main desk that needs sorting. We spend our time managing the day-to-day operations and talking to our regular contacts. It’s a family-run kind of atmosphere, so things are pretty relaxed but we still get our work done. The stairs up to the second floor are a bit narrow. We often hear the sounds of the street vendors and traffic from the window. It’s a busy part of town, so there is always something going on outside. We don’t have fancy signs or bright lights. Just a small nameplate on the door. It’s a practical place for us. We know everyone in the building and they know us. We just keep doing what we’ve always done, one day at a time, without making any kind of big deal out of it.
