Zakaria Sons Exports

We operate out of Zakaria House on Peergaib Street. It’s an old building that’s been in the family for a long time. Zakaria Sons Exports is basically a small team of us working in these rooms. The street outside is usually very narrow and crowded with rickshaws and people walking. It can be a bit of a struggle to get goods in and out of the building. We deal with exports, so there’s always a lot of packing and weighing going on. The rooms have high ceilings and old wooden doors that creak every time you open them. We don’t have air conditioning, just some ceiling fans that hum all day. We keep our ledgers and records in big cupboards. It’s a very traditional way of doing things, I suppose. We don't have a website with lots of photos. We just talk to our clients directly and handle the shipping ourselves. Sometimes the neighborhood gets a bit noisy during festivals, but we just work through it. We’ve known the other shopkeepers on Peergaib Street for decades. It feels more like a community than just a place of business. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there. We just want to keep the family trade going and make sure the orders are handled right. It gets very humid here in the summer, but we just open the windows and keep moving along with our tasks as best as we can.
