Asjad Arts

Working out of Panju Sarai Sambhal is different every day. At Asjad Arts, we don’t have a massive team or a glass building to show off. We just have our workshop and the tools we use to create things. Sambhal is known for this kind of work and we are just one part of that long tradition. The floor usually has shavings or dust on it because that is the nature of what we do. We start early when the air is still a bit cool and we keep going until the sun starts to go down behind the buildings. It is not a quiet place because there is always some tapping or grinding noise happening in the background. We keep our materials stacked up in the corner and sometimes the pile gets a bit too high and we have to reorganize everything. Our neighbors are mostly doing similar things so there is a lot of shouting back and forth across the street. We don’t use any complicated software or big management systems here. We just write things down in a notebook and make sure the orders get finished on time. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit and wait it out with a cold drink. It is honest work and it keeps us busy. People come to us when they want something that was actually made by a person, not a big machine in some distant factory.
