S. S. M. Handicrafts

You can find S. S. M. Handicrafts over in Bhuda Mohollah, right near the Ek Minar Wali Masjid. It is an old part of town with a lot of history. Our shop is full of things made by hand. We have been in this neighborhood for quite a while. The masjid is a big landmark, so it’s easy for people to find us. Inside, there are shelves filled with different crafts. It’s often a bit dark and cool inside compared to the street. We work with wood, metal, and other materials. There is usually a bit of dust from the work being done in the back. It isn't a polished showroom. It’s more of a workshop where we also sell things. We talk to the craftsmen and see what they are making each week. Sometimes we have a lot of one item and sometimes we run out completely. That’s just how it goes with handmade stuff. The neighbors are all familiar faces. We hear the call to prayer from the mosque five times a day. It’s a steady rhythm for our daily work. We don’t do much advertising at all. People who like traditional crafts just know where to come. We take pride in the items we have, even if the shop looks a bit cluttered or old at times. It’s just how we live and work here. We just want to keep the tradition going in our own small way without any fancy talk.
