Rs Handicrafts is located in Katghar Barwalan, right near the police chowki. If you’re coming down the main road, you’ll hear the sounds of the market long before you see our door. It’s a busy part of town, and there’s always something happening right outside. We work with our hands mostly, making different items that people use in their homes or for gifts. The shop is full of the smell of wood and polish. We have shelves packed with things we’ve finished, and the floor is usually covered in wood shavings or small bits of metal. It’s not the most organized place in the world, but I know where everything is. I’ve been doing this for years, and my hands are usually stained with ink or paint by the time the sun goes down. We don’t do any big advertising. Most people find us because they were walking past the police chowki and saw us working. We have a small bench outside where we sit when the shop gets too cramped. It’s a tough way to make a living sometimes because everything takes so long to finish. You can’t rush this kind of work. We just take it day by day, making sure each piece is solid before we put it out for sale. It’s simple work, but it keeps us busy from morning until night. Sometimes a customer brings an old piece back for repair, and we take care of that too.
