Kamal Handicrafts

Kamal Handicrafts is located in Sharma Gali, right near the old Kamal Cinema in Baradari. It’s a bit of a maze to find us if you aren’t from around here, but once you see the cinema, you’re close. We work out of a small space at 45A/11. It’s mostly a workshop where we put together different handmade items. We use a lot of local materials, and there is usually a lot of scrap and thread lying around. It’s not a very tidy place, to be honest. We are more focused on getting the items finished than keeping the floor spotless. A few of us sit here during the day, working on different pieces. It’s quiet work for the most part, unlike the noise from the main road. We don't have a big corporate structure or any fancy titles. We just make things that people might like to have in their homes. Sometimes the designs don't go exactly as planned, but that's part of making things by hand. The light in the gali isn't always the best, so we have some old lamps to help us see the fine details. We’ve been here for a while, and the neighbors are all used to us being there. We aren't looking to become a huge company. We just enjoy the process of creating something from scratch.
