Handicraft Ornaments

You can find us at Mandi Chauk, on Attistreet, which is very close to the Laxminarayan Mandir. Because of the temple, the street is always full of people, especially on festival days. Handicraft Ornaments is a small place, and it’s usually quite crowded inside with all the different pieces we have on display. We deal with traditional items that take a lot of patience to handle. The shop is old, with wooden counters that have been worn smooth over the years. We don't have bright neon signs or anything like that; we just leave the doors open so people can see what we’re working on. Sometimes the smell of incense from the Mandir floats inside, which is quite nice. We spend our time checking the finish on the ornaments and talking to the local craftsmen who bring us their work. It’s a slow-paced kind of job compared to the big factories. We know most of the people who walk past our door by name. Sometimes we just sit on the stools out front and watch the crowd go by when business is quiet. The lighting inside isn't the best, so we often take pieces to the doorway to show customers the real color in the sunlight. It’s a modest shop, but it’s been our second home for a long time.
