Hamraz International

Down at 78/D-10 on Nai Sarak, that’s where you’ll find Hamraz International. Nai Sarak is always packed with people and books and clothes. Our spot is just one of many in this crowded area. We’ve been here since the days when the streets were a bit wider. We deal in various goods for export. The office is small and filled with the smell of old paper and ink. It’s a family-run thing, mostly. My uncle sits in the corner and keeps track of the accounts in a big ledger. We don't use much technology besides an old computer that takes forever to start up. People walk in and out all day long. It gets loud with all the rickshaws outside. We don't have any fancy brochures. If you want to know what we have, you just have to ask. We try to be fair with everyone. Sometimes we have to stack boxes all the way to the ceiling when a big shipment arrives. It makes moving around the office a bit of a challenge. We know most of the other shopkeepers on the street. We share tea and talk about the weather or the market. It’s a simple life in a very busy place. We just do our part and keep the business moving. The stairs to the office are a bit steep, so you have to be careful when you visit. We don't leave until late because there is always one more thing to do.
