Our place is inside S. Y. Compound, right off Jigar Road in Diwan Bazar. If you know the bazar, you know how crowded it gets. There are always rickshaws and carts blocking the way near the entrance. Inside the compound, things are a bit more organized, but not much. We spend our days dealing with piles of goods and wooden crates that need to go overseas. S. Y. Exports is not some big glass office. It's mostly just concrete floors and the sound of tape dispensers. The walls have some stains from the rainy season, and the ceiling fans make a bit of a clicking noise when they're on high. We sit at some old desks and handle the paperwork for the customs and shipping. Diwan Bazar has a lot of energy, and we've been here long enough that the tea stall guy knows exactly what we want. Sometimes the trucks can't turn into the road properly, so we have to go out and help direct traffic. It's a lot of physical work, moving boxes and checking labels. We don't have fancy uniforms or anything. Usually, we're just in our everyday clothes, covered in a bit of dust from the warehouse. We stay late most nights to make sure the containers are filled. It is just the way we do things here. No one complains much, we just get on with the shipments.
