Santsena Mens Parlour

Down on Pimpalgaon Road in Nandurdi, you will find Santsena Mens Parlour. We are situated right opposite the NDCC Bank, which is a good landmark for anyone trying to find us. Nashik has many big shops, but out here in Nandurdi, things are more basic and honest. The shop is small and the floor is made of old tiles that have seen many years of work. Every morning, I unlock the heavy metal shutter and let the air in. It’s often quiet early on, except for the birds and the occasional tractor going by on the road. When the bank opens, more people start appearing. We have two main chairs that have been repaired a few times over the years. They are comfortable enough if you aren't staying too long. I keep the water spray bottle full and the towels stacked up near the back. It’s a one-man show most of the time, so I handle everything from the sweeping to the actual hair cutting. People from the surrounding farms often stop in when they come to the bank. We talk about the crops or the rain while I work. It’s a steady pace, nothing too rushed. The sun shines right through the front window in the afternoon, making it a bit warm, but we have a small fan that helps. By the end of the day, there is hair everywhere and I have to sweep it all up before heading home.
