St Josephs School

St Josephs School is located in Paravai which is a part of Madurai. We have been here for a long time and the building shows its age in some spots but it is sturdy. Every morning the students come in wearing their uniforms and carrying heavy bags. We have classrooms for different grades and the teachers spend their time at the blackboards explaining lessons. The playground gets very dusty when the children are out for their break but that is where most of the fun happens. We have a bell that rings to tell everyone when it is time to switch classes or head home. It is a loud place during the day with voices echoing in the corridors. We don't have a lot of extra stuff but we make sure the students have their books and a place to sit. The walls have some old posters and maps on them. Being in Paravai means we get many students from the surrounding houses and villages. It is a local school where everyone knows everyone else’s name. We just try to get through the curriculum and make sure the kids understand what they are reading. In the evenings the gates are locked and the place goes quiet until the next morning starts again. It is a basic school life that has stayed the same for many years without changing much. We just do our work and look after the students.
