If you go down Sourashtra School Lane in Madurai, you’ll find us at number 5/4 in the Golden Jubilee Building. Sourashtra Co Education Higher Secondary School has a long history in this part of Madurai City. The building itself has that old look to it, which makes sense given the name. It’s a co-ed school, so we have both boys and girls running around the hallways and filling up the classrooms. Madurai is a hot city, and the school lane can get pretty narrow and dusty, but it’s our home. We have students from all kinds of backgrounds coming here for their higher secondary years. The classrooms are filled with the usual desks and benches that have seen many years of use. There isn’t much in the way of high-tech gadgets here, just teachers with chalk and students with notebooks. We follow the standard routines that schools have followed for decades. It’s a bit loud during the breaks, and the Golden Jubilee Building echoes with the sound of several hundred kids talking at once. People in the neighborhood are used to the noise. We don’t have a lot of bells and whistles. It’s just a place where education happens in a very normal, everyday kind of way. We’ve been part of the Madurai landscape for a long time now, and we just keep going, day after day, one lesson at a time.
