St Assisi World School

St Assisi World School sits on Melakkal Main Road in Thuvariman. It is a bit outside the main rush of Madurai, which is nice because it feels a little more open than the city center. The address is No 4/172 and it has been a fixture in this part of town for a bit. The road outside can get pretty muddy when it rains, and we all end up tracking dirt into the lobby. Nobody really minds though, as it is just part of life here. The classrooms are basic and functional. We have benches that have seen a lot of use and blackboards that are a bit grey now from all the chalk. It is a loud place, especially when the wind carries the sound of the nearby traffic or when the kids are heading out for their break. We have a few trees in the yard where people sit during the lunch hour to get away from the sun. It is not a fancy setup by any means. We spend our time checking notebooks, talking to parents who drop by without appointments, and making sure the water coolers are full. It feels like a small community because everyone knows everyone else’s business. There is no big mystery to how we run things. We just open the gates in the morning and do our best until it is time to go home. It is just a regular school in Thuvariman where we try to get things done.
