Othakadai Nadar Uravinmurai Matriculation School

Othakadai Nadar Uravinmurai Matriculation School is on Narasingam Road in Othakadai, Madurai. We are located right near the famous hill, so the view is actually quite nice when you are standing in the playground. The school was started by the local community to make sure kids in this part of Madurai had a place to study. It is a fairly large building with many rooms, but we have a lot of students, so every inch of space is used up. The classrooms are simple, with fans that hum loudly and windows that look out onto the street or the courtyard. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment or a big computer lab. Most of the teaching happens with books and the blackboard. The ground outside is mostly sand and dirt, which is typical for schools in this region. During the rainy season, it can get a bit muddy, but the kids don't seem to mind. We have a small gate at the entrance and a watchman who has been here for years. The teachers know most of the families in Othakadai, so it feels very much like a community school. We don't put on any big shows or have expensive events. We just focus on the daily lessons and making sure the students are prepared for their final exams. It’s a regular part of life on Narasingam Road. We see the same shops and people every single day.
