New Denson School

If you go down Pandi Koil Street in Uthangudi, you’ll find New Denson School. We are situated in a part of Madurai that feels a bit more open than the crowded city center. The school building is simple and functional. We have a playground that gets a lot of use during the breaks. The kids here are mostly from the surrounding neighborhoods. We know a lot of the parents by their first names because they’ve lived here for a long time. In the mornings, there’s a lot of activity with cycles and scooters arriving. We have several classrooms spread across the floors. The walls are painted a plain color, and we have the usual school furniture. It’s not a place for luxury. We focus on the daily lessons and making sure the children are safe while they are with us. Sometimes the power goes out, and we just open the windows wider to let the breeze in. It’s quite hot in Madurai, so we have to stay prepared for that. The staff rooms are small, but they serve their purpose for the teachers to sit and have their lunch. We have a small gate that leads out to the street. It’s a quiet road mostly, except for when school starts or ends. It’s a very straightforward, local school where everyone knows what to do. There is no need for big speeches here, we just work.
