Nagarjuna High School

We are located at No 7 on Vivekananthar Street, which is in the Anaiyur area of Madurai. It’s a quiet enough street most of the time, though it picks up when parents are dropping kids off. Nagarjuna High School is a place where we just get on with things. The building is older, and you can tell by the way the stairs have worn down over the years. We have a lot of students from around the 625017 zip code. In the mornings, you’ll hear the sound of the morning assembly. It’s a familiar sound for everyone living on this street. We have a small staff room where we sit and drink tea while grading papers. It gets quite hot in Madurai, as everyone knows, so we keep the windows open to catch whatever breeze comes through Anaiyur. We don’t have much in the way of fancy gadgets. It’s more about the books and the blackboards here. Sometimes the stray dogs wander near the gate, looking for a bit of shade. The kids are usually busy, running from one class to the next. We try to keep the place tidy, but with so many students, there’s always a bit of dust. It’s just a regular local high school. We know the parents and we know the kids. It feels like a small community inside these walls. We’ve been part of Vivekananthar Street for a long time now and we’re used to the rhythm of the place, year after year.
