Lotus Vidyalaya Play School

Down here in Madurai, we have our little place called Lotus Vidyalaya Play School. It is located at No 24 on Janaki Narayanan Street, right in the Somasundaram Colony area. If you live around here, you probably know the street. It is mostly residential, so things stay relatively calm most of the time. I start my day early, unlocking the front gate and getting the rooms ready before the first kids show up with their parents. The building is just a simple house that we converted to use for the school. It’s got a bit of a yard, but nothing huge. Inside, the walls are painted in bright colors because that is what you do for a play school, I suppose. Some of the paint is peeling a little near the floor, but we try to keep it clean. We spend a lot of time just sitting on the mats and going through basic things. There is always a lot of noise once everyone arrives. You can hear the kids shouting from the end of the block sometimes. We don't have any fancy equipment or anything like that. It is just a place for the neighborhood children to be while their parents are busy. Sometimes the heat in Madurai gets to be too much, so we have the fans running all day long. It's a modest setup, but it’s been here for a while and people seem used to us being part of the colony.
