Karthik Hotel

Our hotel is at Number 56 on D D Road in Arasaradi. We are right opposite the Arapalayam Bus Stand. This is one of the busiest parts of Madurai. There are always people moving around, day and night. Because we are near Padithurai, we get a lot of travelers who are just arriving or waiting for their next bus. The building is not new, but it is sturdy. We have a restaurant downstairs and rooms for staying upstairs. The stairs are a bit narrow and we have had the same tiles on the floor for years. In Madurai, the heat is something you just have to live with, so we keep the windows open for the breeze when it is not too dusty. We do not have a big team of people. It is just a few of us who handle the check-ins and the food. You can hear the conductors shouting at the bus stand from our front door. It is a very lively place to be. We do not try to be like the big modern hotels in the city center. We are just Karthik Hotel, a place for someone to rest their feet and get a meal. We serve water in steel tumblers and use heavy plates. It is a straightforward business. We open up early and don't really close until the last bus has left the stand across the street and the road gets quiet.
