Ashok Bhavan Hotel

We are located on Koodal Alagar Perumal Kovil Sannathi Street in Madurai. It’s a very traditional part of town, right near the famous temple and not far from the Periyar Bus Stand. Because of where we are, we get a lot of people who are visiting the temple or waiting for their next bus to another city. The street is always full of life, with flower sellers and people walking by at all hours of the day. We run the hotel and the eating area here with a small crew of workers. It gets very busy in the mornings when the first buses arrive and people want their coffee and breakfast before they head out. We don’t have fancy carpets or expensive paintings on the walls. It’s a place with tiled floors that we mop several times a day and sturdy tables that can handle the rush. We focus on getting the food out hot and making sure the rooms are ready for whoever needs a place to rest their head. The noise from the bus stand and the temple bells is just part of the background music for us now. We’ve been here for years and we know the rhythms of this street. It’s a lot of hard work, especially during the festival months when the crowds get huge, but we just take it one day at a time. If you are coming from the bus stand, it’s only a short walk to our door.
