Gowri Hotel

Gowri Hotel sits on Travellers Bungalow Road in Madurai. If you know the Arasaradi area, we are quite close to the Solaimalai Cinema. It is a busy corner of town with a lot of noise. We open up pretty early because people traveling for work need their coffee and tiffins before the buses start running. The kitchen starts humming before the sun is even up properly. Our tables are simple, nothing too special, just sturdy enough for the daily rush of customers. We get a lot of guys coming from the bus stand or people waiting for their movie show to start. It gets a bit sweaty in the afternoons, especially in the Madurai heat, so the ceiling fans are always spinning at full speed. We try to keep the floors clean, but with so many people coming in and out, it is a constant job for the boys. Most of the staff have been with me for a while. They know the regulars by face and what they usually order. We don't really do fancy menus. What we have is written on a board or you just ask the server. Sometimes we run out of certain items by lunch, and that is just how it is. We cook in small batches to keep it fresh. The noise from the road never really stops, but you get used to it. It is just a local hotel for people passing through.
