Hotel Mariya

Hotel Mariya is located at No 30, South Velil Street in Madurai. We are right opposite the Sappani Kovil temple. Being near the temple means we hear the bells and the morning prayers, which is a nice way to start the day. Madurai is a very old city, and South Velil Street is right in the heart of it. The streets are narrow and can get very crowded with people and scooters. Our hotel is an older building, and it has that lived-in feel. We don't have modern decor or anything flashy. It's just rooms with the essentials. We get a lot of pilgrims coming to visit the temples and people here for the local markets. It’s a lot of work keeping up with the cleaning because of all the dust from the street. We don't have a big team, just family and a couple of helpers. We sit out front most of the day, talking to neighbors and greeting people who walk by. It’s not a quiet area, but it’s full of life. If you want a place that feels like real Madurai, this is it. We don't make big promises. We just give you a key and a room. It’s been our life for a long time now, and we’re used to the rhythm of the street. The evening market nearby is always loud and stays open quite late, so there’s always something to see. We just keep our heads down and do our daily tasks.
