Thakar Singh Gurbachan Singh Behl Rice Mills

We are located on Pandori Road in the Gurmukh Singh Nagar area of Bhattian. The name of the mill is a bit of a mouthful, Thakar Singh Gurbachan Singh Behl Rice Mills, but that is because it has been passed down through the family. We are just regular people trying to run a business in our community. Every morning, we open the gates and start getting the machines ready. It is a lot of work to keep an old mill running smoothly. We don't have a big office with air conditioning. We spend our time out where the bags are being filled. The dust is just part of the environment here. We have a small group of workers who are like family to us. Some of them have been here since I was a kid. We don't do any fancy advertising or have a social media page. People around Bhattian know who we are and where to find us. We mostly just talk to our customers face-to-face. Sometimes the power is unreliable, so we have to adjust our schedule and work when we can. We drink a lot of water and tea to stay hydrated during the hot months. The work is hard and repetitive, but there is a certain rhythm to it that I like. We just focus on the task at hand and try to do right by the people who bring us their rice. It’s what we know how to do best.
