Our group is based right here in Takhtupura. Takhtupura Farmer Producer Company Limited was started because we wanted to have a better way to handle our harvests. In a small place like this, you have to look out for each other. We are just a collection of neighbors who share a common goal of getting our produce to the market without losing too much money along the way. Most of us have been farming these fields since we were kids. We know every dip in the road and which fields flood when the rain gets heavy. We meet up whenever we need to make a big decision, usually just standing in a circle near one of our barns. There is no corporate ladder here. We are all just trying to get through the season. Sometimes we have to deal with broken equipment or prices that drop right when we are ready to sell. It’s frustrating, but having the company helps us absorb those shocks a little better. We don't put on airs or pretend to be something we aren't. We are just people from Takhtupura who know how to work the land. Our day starts before the birds are up and usually ends when we are too tired to keep our eyes open. It is a basic way of living, but it is our way. We are just trying to keep the farming tradition alive while making it a bit more sustainable.
