Shiv Shanker Rice & General Mills is located on Talwandi Road in Mullanpur. It’s a spot that sees a lot of activity throughout the year. The traffic on Talwandi Road can be a bit much sometimes, making it hard for the bigger trucks to pull out safely. We spend our days inside the mill, mostly watching the belts turn and making sure nothing gets stuck. It’s a lot of maintenance work to keep everything running without a breakdown. When something does break, we have to fix it ourselves with whatever tools we have on hand. It’s not always pretty, but we get it done. The mill is a practical place. We don't have decorations or a nice waiting room. There’s just the scale for weighing things and the machinery that does the heavy work. We usually have a radio playing somewhere in the background, though you can only hear it during the breaks. We get a lot of locals stopping by to chat or check on their orders. It makes the day go by a little faster. Mullanpur is a good place to be, even if it gets a bit crowded during the harvest. We just focus on the task at hand and try to keep the piles of bags organized so we don't lose track of anything. It's a lot of repetition, but someone has to do it.
