Mittal Rice Mills

Mittal Rice Mills is out in Tehsil Jagraon, specifically in the village and post of Hathur. If you know where the main bus stand is in Kamalpura, then you are basically right near us. We have been operating out of this village for quite some time now. The building itself is older, with some cracks in the cement and paint that has seen better days. Every morning, we open up the shutters and start the day. The smell of raw rice is always in the air around here. It is a very local operation. Sometimes people from the village stop by just to chat for a minute while they are waiting for the bus. We have a couple of dogs that hang around the gates looking for scraps from our lunch. Inside the mill, it is all about the machinery and the bags. We have to be careful with the belts and the rollers. It is not the cleanest job in the world, and your clothes are usually covered in husks by midday. We do not have any big fancy signs, just the name of the mill and our location in Hathur. The work is steady and repetitive. We follow the same routine day after day, year after year. It is a part of the village life here in Kamalpura. When the power goes out, which happens sometimes, we just sit outside and wait for it to come back on.
