Mehtas Mobile Plaza

At Mehtas Mobile Plaza, we are mostly busy fixing screens and looking at circuit boards through magnifying glasses. The shop is at number 36 on Kochar Market Road. It is a small space filled with glass cases and a lot of wires hanging behind the counter in a mess. People bring in phones that have been dropped or stopped charging for no reason at all. We spend a lot of time under bright desk lamps squinting at tiny screws and plastic bits. The street outside is always noisy with motorcycles and people walking to the main market. We have two stools for people to sit on while they wait, but usually, they just stand and watch us work on their devices. Sometimes we have to wait a few days for a specific part to arrive from across town. It’s not a corporate store with uniforms or anything like that. We wear whatever is comfortable and talk to the customers like they are neighbors, because most of them are. There are always boxes of old phone covers stacked in the corner that we really need to sort through soon. The air conditioner works when it feels like it, so it can get pretty warm in the afternoons. We handle a lot of recharges and small accessories too. It is just a local mobile shop where we try to solve whatever problem walks through the door. We don't have fancy displays.
