Mahavir Rice Mill

If you’re driving down Katron Road in Sherpur, you’ll see us right near the petrol pump. It’s a handy landmark for people trying to find the mill for the first time. We’ve been here at Mahavir Rice Mill for a good bit now. The yard is usually full of tractors and the occasional truck waiting to unload. It gets pretty loud once we start up the equipment in the morning, but we don't mind. The work is steady, and there is always something that needs doing, whether it’s cleaning out the bins or checking the moisture in the grain. We don't have any big corporate office or anything like that. It’s just a small room with a fan and a few chairs where we sit down to talk business with the local farmers. The walls are a bit stained from the dust, and the floor is always covered in a thin layer of rice husks. We take things as they come. If the crop is good, we are very busy. If it’s a bad year, we still show up and do what we can. It’s a simple operation, really. We don’t try to be anything we aren't. We just focus on the rice and making sure the machines stay running. People in Sherpur know us as a fixture on Katron Road, and that’s fine by us. We just keep our heads down and work through whatever the day throws our way.
