Gupta Shawls

We run Gupta Shawls over in Mochpura Bazar. If you've ever walked through this market, you know exactly how packed it gets with people and goods. We've got piles of shawls stacked up to the ceiling in some parts of our shop. It’s not a big showroom with fancy glass or bright lights. We just have some simple wooden shelves and a few old benches for people to sit on while they look at the different patterns. Most of the time we’re busy unpacking new stock or sorting through orders for people in other cities who call us up. The air in the bazar is always full of noise, people shouting and horns honking constantly. We’re used to it. My family has been doing this for a long time. We know which fabrics feel right and which ones aren't up to the mark. We don't use a lot of big words to describe what we sell to people. A shawl is either warm and good quality or it isn't. We try to keep things simple. Sometimes the shop gets so full of customers that we have to stand out on the front step just to talk. It's a small space but it works for what we need. We drink tea with the other shopkeepers nearby and talk about how the season is going. It's a real community here. We don't have a website that does much, we just prefer people coming in.
