Green Fields

Out here in Katani Kalan Village, things move a bit differently than they do in the middle of Ludhiana city. Green Fields is located right on the Chandigarh Road, so we see plenty of people traveling between the two towns. It is a wide-open area with plenty of dust coming off the fields when the wind picks up. We have got a decent amount of space here, which is lucky because we need it for all the stuff we keep in stock. The building is simple, just concrete and brick. We do not have any fancy air conditioning, so we keep the big doors open to let the breeze in during the spring. Our neighbors are mostly farmers or people working in the small workshops along this stretch of the tehsil. We spend our mornings checking the inventory and talking to the drivers who pull over for a break. It is not a quiet place, especially with the tractors and trucks rumbling by on the main road, but we like it. The sun sets right behind the fields in the evening, and that is usually when we start closing up. There is no big mission statement hanging on the wall. We just show up and get the work done. If someone needs something, they know where to pull their truck over and find us. It is a very local way of doing business, and we have been here long enough that people recognize the name.
