Our business is located in Maidewas, which is a village in the Sunam Tehsil of Sangrur. We are set up at Dalip Singh’s place. It is a very rural area, which is quite different from the big cities like Ludhiana or Amritsar. We deal with import and export stuff, mostly focusing on textiles. Since we are out in the countryside, things move at a bit of a slower pace. We have to deal with the weather a lot, like when the roads get muddy after a heavy rain and the trucks cannot reach us easily. It is a very hands-on operation. We spend a lot of time on the phone trying to coordinate with transporters and making sure things are actually moving. There is no corporate polish here. We work out of a simple building near the fields. You can see the crops growing right outside our door. It is a quiet life for the most part, except for when we are loading up a big shipment. We do not have a marketing team or a sales department. It is just a few of us making sure the goods get from one place to another. We know most of the people in the village, so we often stop to talk to neighbors while we are working. It is a practical, honest way to run a business. We just do our best to get the work done before the sun sets.
