Charan Kamal Rice & General Mills

On Samrala Road, Charan Kamal Rice & General Mills has its spot. It is a bit more than just a rice mill because we handle a few other things too, but rice is the main thing. The yard is usually full of activity. You can see the smoke from the chimneys and hear the heavy thud of the bags being loaded onto the trucks. Samrala Road is a major route, so we get a lot of people stopping by just to see what we are doing. We don't have a formal tour or anything. Usually, someone will just point them toward the office if they have questions. The office is just a small room with a desk and some old chairs. It is functional and that is all we need. We don't believe in wasting money on things that don't help the mill run better. The equipment is a mix of old and new. Some of the older machines actually run better than the ones we bought recently. We spend a lot of time cleaning. Grain dust gets into everything if you aren't careful. It’s a bit of a battle to keep the place tidy, but we try our best. The workers are good people who know the job inside out. We don't have many meetings. We just know what needs to be done and we do it. It’s a plain, hardworking life here on Samrala Road and we are okay with that.
