Running Bawa Building Material Store is a lot of heavy lifting and getting gray dust on your shoes every single day. We are over at Parbhat Nagar 48, right where the trucks can pull in without having too much trouble with the narrow turns. It is a noisy place, especially when the cement bags are being moved or the heavy sand gets dumped in the yard. People come in looking for things to fix their houses or start building new walls. We do not have a fancy showroom with bright lights and carpets. It is just stacks of bricks, pipes, and whatever else people in the neighborhood need for their construction work. The sun hits the yard pretty hard in the afternoon, so we spend a lot of time drinking water and sitting in the shade of the doorway. Dealing with builders and guys on site means we hear a lot of stories about how the city is growing. Sometimes the delivery truck gets stuck in traffic and everything runs late. That is just part of the day here in Parbhat Nagar. We have known the families around here for ages. They drop by even if they do not need to buy anything, just to say hello and share some news. It gets messy when it rains, the mud gets everywhere, but we just keep the doors open. It is simple work, but it keeps us on our feet from morning till dark.
