Ambica Rice Mills

Ambica Rice Mills sits right along Samrala Road. If you’re coming from town, we are on the left side. It’s a big gray building with a lot of movement around it most of the time. We don’t really do much in the way of decoration. The name Ambica Rice Mills is painted on the side, and that’s about it. Most days, we are busy from the moment we open the gates. There’s a lot of lifting and moving involved in this business. My back usually aches by the end of the week, but that’s just part of it. Samrala Road can be a nightmare with traffic, but it makes it easy for the trucks to find us. We don’t have any fancy mission statements or slogans. We just process the rice and try to keep the machines from breaking down. When something does break, we usually fix it ourselves with whatever tools we have on hand. It’s a very practical way of living. Sometimes we sit out front in the evenings when the air cools down and watch the cars go by. It’s a good way to end the day. We aren't trying to change the world or anything like that. We just want to run a decent mill and keep things moving. Ambica Rice Mills is just a place where work gets done. It’s not always pretty, but it’s real. That is just how we like it. We hope to stay here for a while longer.
