La Martiniere College

The college has been here on Martiniere Road for a long time. When you walk around the grounds in Martin Purwa, you see these huge old buildings that have seen so many students come and go. Honestly, some parts of the walls could use a bit of paint, but that’s just how it is with places this old. We spend most of our days just keeping things running. It’s quiet in the mornings before the boys show up, and then it gets real loud. Lucknow weather can be a bit much, especially in the summer, but the trees help a lot. People often stop by the Council House just to look at the architecture. We don’t do anything fancy here, just follow the schedule and make sure the bells ring on time. Sometimes the monkeys get into the classrooms, which is a bit of a mess to clean up. Most of us have worked here for years and we know every corner of the place. It’s a big spot, so walking from one end to the other takes a while. You get used to the dust and the noise of the city outside the gates. We have a lot of old desks and chairs that have been fixed many times. It’s not like those new schools you see in magazines, but it works for the people here. We just try to get through the lessons and keep the kids out of trouble.
