The shop sits right by Kota Junction. Being near the station means there’s never a quiet moment. You always hear the trains coming in and the announcements over the speakers. It’s a small shop, just a few chairs and mirrors. We get a lot of travelers who just stepped off a train and need to look decent before a meeting or heading home. Then there are the regulars who live nearby and have been coming to us for years. The floor is usually covered in hair until we get a chance to sweep it between customers. We have the usual stuff, scissors, clippers, and that blue liquid for the combs. It isn’t a luxury spa or anything like that. It’s just a place for a haircut or a shave. We keep the fans running high because it gets stuffy in the afternoons. Sometimes the power goes out and we just keep working with the door open for light. Most people just sit quietly and watch the news on the small TV we have in the corner while they wait their turn. I spend most of my day standing on my feet, but you get used to it. It’s a good spot to see people from all over coming through the junction. We open early and stay open until the last train rush is mostly over. It’s simple work but it keeps us connected to the neighborhood. We are just here doing cuts and shaves for whoever needs one.
