Most days here at Bharat Asbestos Cement Co on Ipia Road No 2, things start pretty early. We are tucked into unit B-20, which is easy enough to find once you get off the main stretch and head toward the back of the industrial area. The space is mostly taken up by stacks of cement sheets and bags that we try to keep organized, though the dust makes that a constant battle. It is a heavy kind of job, moving materials around and making sure everything stays dry when the weather turns bad. The roof at B-20 has a few leaks we have been meaning to fix for months now, but you know how it goes when you are busy helping everyone else with their own building supplies. Usually, it is just a couple of us here, drinking tea while we wait for the next truck to pull in. The road outside can get a bit cramped with all the traffic coming through No 2, so we spend a fair amount of time just directing drivers where to park without blocking the neighbors. It is not a fancy setup by any means. There are some old wooden desks in the corner where we keep the ledgers and the phone, which rings more than you would expect. People mostly come by looking for basic supplies to fix up their sheds or small sites nearby. We just keep our heads down and get the loading done.
