If you find yourself in New Alipore near the petrol pump, you’ll see our place at Plot 542 in Block N. We’ve been here at Universal Machine Tools for quite a stretch. It’s a busy corner of the neighborhood. The shop floor is usually a bit cluttered with parts and tools, but we know where everything is kept. It’s not one of those clean, sterile places you see in brochures. We have oil stains on the floor and a layer of dust on the high shelves. That’s just the nature of working with machine tools. People stop in when they’re looking for something specific, and usually, we have to dig through a few drawers to find it. I’ve lived around here for years, so the commute isn't bad. The tea stall down the street is where we get our morning break. Dealing with machines is straightforward—either they work or they don’t. We spend our time fixing things or helping people figure out what part they actually need. It’s a lot of manual work and checking measurements twice. Sometimes the noise from the street gets a bit much, but you stop noticing it after a while. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there. We just want to make sure the stuff we sell actually does the job it's supposed to do. That’s about it for us. We just keep the shop running and help the customers who walk in.
