We operate out of 9/17 Remount Road here in Kolkata. If you’ve ever been to this part of the city, you know it’s got that old-school feel with a lot of movement. The building we’re in is pretty standard for the area. We’ve been focusing on electronics systems for a good while now as Tyco Electronics Systems India P Ltd. It’s a lot of manual work, checking lists and making sure the components are what they’re supposed to be. Kolkata weather can be pretty humid, so we try to keep the stock in a dry spot. It's not always easy. Our team is small, just a few of us who’ve been working together for years. We know the regulars who come by for parts. We don't spend money on big ads or anything like that. We just focus on the task at hand. Sometimes the road gets blocked up with trucks, which makes getting things in and out a bit of a chore. But that’s just life on Remount Road. We usually have the radio playing in the background while we work. It’s a steady pace. We aren't trying to change the world; we just want to make sure the orders go out on time. If someone drops by, we try to help them find what they are looking for. The building is older, so it has its quirks, like the slow elevator that we sometimes avoid by just taking the stairs. We keep a pot of tea going most mornings.
