Swayam Khatua

Swayam Khatua is based out of Block C A 240 in Salt Lake City Sector 1. It’s a quiet enough area, especially compared to the main roads of Kolkata. We are located near Haryana Vidyamandir Salt Lake School, so there are always students and parents moving around during the morning and afternoon hours. The pin code is 700064. Being in Sector 1 means it is easy for people to find us once they get to the right block. The space we use is pretty basic. It’s not like a big institute with a lot of staff and different departments. It’s more of a personal setup where things are kept simple. I spend most of my day sitting with students and going over their math or science problems. There are a few chairs and a table, and that’s about it. We don’t have a big sign outside. Usually, people just knock on the door or give a call when they are nearby. Sometimes the neighbor’s dog barks a bit too much, but we’ve gotten used to that noise by now. The students come here after their school ends, so the afternoons are usually the busiest time for us. It’s a simple way of living and working. I just like teaching and being in this part of Salt Lake. It feels like a good community to be in for this kind of work. We don’t try to be anything we aren't or pretend to have a big office.
